The International Sheep Centre comprises a network of research providers and industry groups in New Zealand and internationally undertaking quality research consistent with the needs of the Sheep Industry, advancing scientific knowledge of sheep production, welfare, health and biology.
Based at Massey University in the North Island of New Zealand, the International Sheep Centre has access to over 1000 hectares of university land near the campus, providing unsurpassed opportunities to conduct cost-effective research into pastoral sheep production and health. Members of the centre regularly consult with industry professionals and sheep producers and our research projects have input by researchers with a range of animal science, veterinary, agricultural science and extension expertise, and regular interdisciplinary liaison occurs with all projects. Researchers are actively involved in presenting and publishing information direct to the sheep industry and to the scientific and professional communities.
As well as having a research focus addressing industry issues now and in the future, the International Sheep Centre provides a focal point for training the next crop of sheep-focused scientists, consultants and veterinarians through teaching undergraduate students and involvement in post-graduate research projects and providing for professional development opportunities
